SAMPLING OF PANELS & MODERATED DISCUSSIONS

Dialogue Series:

An interdisciplinary faculty panel and guest participants offer short presentations followed by a panel discussion and audience Q&A.  Presenters approach each topic from the perspective of their various disciplines such as art, psychology, legal professions, philosophy, mathematics, and sociology. Some example topics:

Kent Talks:

A panel of students research and provide short presentations on the topic, followed by a moderated Q&A with an audience. Topics are clustered around central themes. Some example topics:

  • Criteria for Intervening in a War or Genocide / Reasons People go to War or commit Genocide / Clash of Civilizations
  • The Right to Be Forgotten on the Internet / Net Neutrality / Effect of Anonymity on the Internet
  • Selfie Generation / Effect of Ease of Access to Information / Privacy
  • Constitutionality of Secession / Wisdom of Lincoln / States’ Rights

Socratic Dialogues:

After a few opening remarks on the Socratic method and the topic at hand, a moderated Socratic discussion to arrive at a sharper version of the concept under discussion. Some example topics:
